"Hail, master"
"Friend, wherefore art thou come?"
Matthew
Now has Christ come to his rest and he goes to meet Judas, at his right side.
With Him the monk can go Jesus' way to meditation, when he goes through the cloisters in that direction.
A moment of great tension : Judas does not dare to look the Master
in the eyes ; he points at Him hesitatingly, as does a second rude
figure, with somber looks, who looks for followers.
The height of the drama is in the waiting for the threat, Judas' kiss!
A chameleon, symbol of camouflage and flight, hangs in an arid tree
of this unbearably, somber nature.
And yet, Christ dominates over the sad couple, looks Judas right into the face, full of sadness for the "friend" that is being lost.
