"Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him."
John"
In this mystical prologue, Christ is depicted as "Seer" of what is about to happen, surrounded by uncomprehending apostles.
All look straight forward. They, who have followed him for three years, see their dream shattered. There are no symbols of bread or wine on the table. Christ is going to sacrifice himself for the sake of humanity.
On the left and right sides the canvas is enclosed by an apostle, who figures from the back or side, in order to emphasize the unity of this community. In order to convey the serenity of the moment, the apostles are depicted in the white hood, which the trappists wear during the offices.
Judas breaks this unity and serenity and goes his way to commit the treat.
In this desperate and heavy atmosphere of agony, Christ, the central figure, prays in a sublime way to his Father.
