Manual labour |
Prayer, reading, study and manual labour are the pillars of monastic life.

The monks, who each to their own capacity contribute to the up keeping of the community, are each appointed to a service. There are monks who clean, bake and brew; others make clothes, bind books, work in the garden; still others are responsible for the reception of guests… By a harmonious division of labour the community is self-supporting.
The sale of the well-known trappist ale provides a financial reserve that is used amongst others to support the needy.

Then are they truly monastics when they live by the labour of their hands.(RB
